Game engines have been used for many years creating basic games such as snake and space invaders to the modern call of duty and far cry set of games that have taken the world by storm, using the construct 2 game engine to create 2d games like maple story are normally used as a rough design and quicker than the udk game engine which creates much more realistic game settings.

(UDK) Whilst using udk the basic format is easy to use as well as gives you basic tools to improve your scene as well as the more complicated tools are easier to use than you would think by looking at it
 (Construct 2)
Using construct 2 was again simple to use  once you are used to the format of adding images in but other than that its A lot like Photoshop as-well as using a similar coding style to flash.
(Frostbite 2) Looking through images, reviews and videos of this game engine showed me how highly detailed the scene's can be it looks as if you looking at a photograph of a real place which in itself makes any game using the scene that much better as-well as the other programs is simple to use and
the more complicated tools can easily be learned from simple use.

exsperimentation and devolpment

Multiple character/creature designs - each of the images below are a range of ideas showing which type of creatures could be placed within a 2d game with less detail but still completely useable.

Background - the backgrounds within 2d games set the mood and style of any game such as medevil - castles, Demonic - fire and lava or Sci fi - space theme

Research

the most basic form of animation is of originally stick man on paper where you would flip the pages rapidly to creation the effect of moving images, this was used in films in the early stages of animated movies and are still used today in company's such as Pixar and others.

Rota-scope

The process of rota-scoping in a simple way of using the outline of an already existing video to create an outline of the movements in this case it was taken from the recent tomb raider trailer where it was the character was jumping and from this i could continue to create my own version  of the animation by adding in backgrounds, landscapes and other such objects within to make it my own.
